Achilles Tendonitis: Clinical Trials and Research Studies

Achilles tendon connects calf muscles in lower leg to heel bone. When the muscle contracts, tendon transmits this power to heel bone. This prompts a movement like a step or a jump. Achilles tendon passes through a protective sheath. This sheath consists of numerous tiny fibers. Blood supply to this region is very poor. Hence, the overall region is easily susceptible to injury. Further, recovery from injury is slow and sometimes only temporary.

Achilles tendonitis is common among athletes and people who train heavily. It occurs due to overuse of the tendon. Tendonitis causes degeneration of tendon fibers, sometimes leading to tendon rupture. If untreated, it becomes chronic.
