Home Remedies and Alternative Therapies for Acid Reflux

New York (USA), June 19, 2013

Acid reflux is painful and irritating. If left untreated, it could lead to serious ailments like ulcer, cancer, scarring, inflammation, and hemorrhage.

Acid Reflux: Home Remedies

Change Diet: Avoid sugary and processed foods as these exaggerate acid reflux symptoms by creating bacterial imbalances in intestines and stomach. Include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Raw foods like fruits contain various digestive enzymes. Include Probiotics or probiotic supplements in your daily diet as these flood your intestine with good bacteria and encourage free bowel movements. Use good quality salt with lots of trace minerals in your diet to balance hydrochloric acid levels.

Baking Soda: Stir in a spoonful of baking soda (bicarbonate) in a glass of water and drink before it fizzes out. This restricts acid formation in stomach. However, if you have sodium restrictions or suffer from high blood pressure, take medical advice before starting on this home remedy.

Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar: Take a spoonful of raw organic apple cider vinegar mixed in four ounces of water before each meal. This keeps stomach cool and promotes easy digestion. It is remedial even for acute cases of acid reflux.

Glutamine: This is commonly found in eggs, milk, fish, spinach, and parsley. It is anti-inflammatory in nature and very effective at reducing intestinal inflammation associated with acid reflux.

Organic Aloe Vera Juice: This juice not only helps easy digestion but also treats associated ailments like inflammation, diarrhea, and ulcerative colitis. Mix an ounce of Aloe Vera juice in two ounces of water and drink it when acid reflux symptoms start.

Vitamin D: Vitamin D is easily available through appropriate exposure to sunlight. High vitamin D levels in body destroy body infections including those of the esophagus. Supplement vitamin D levels in body through intake of vitamin D supplements.

Acid Reflux: Alternative Therapies

There are no proven alternative therapies, which offer relief from acid reflux symptoms. Guided imagery, acupuncture, and progressive muscular relaxation techniques reduce anxiety and stress levels caused due to acid reflux.

Certain herbal remedies like slippery elm, marshmallow, licorice, and chamomile are often used to curb acid reflux symptoms. Nonetheless, herbal remedies may have serious side effects and it is best to use them only if prescribed by professional experts.
