Prevention and Coping with Acne

Preventing Acne

Acne medications and treatments reduce acne appreciably. However, persist with preventive techniques to cope with acne and prevent further breakouts.

Prevention Ttechniques and Tips

1. Self-care measures include keeping face clean with a gentle cleanser and avoiding harsh chemicals. Use cleanser twice a day and avoid excessive cleaning and scrubbing. Use water-based products and avoid any oil-based products to clean your skin. Do not rub skin harshly with any cloth. Use clean towels and treat your skin gently.

2. Use powder or water based cosmetics without added dyes and chemicals. Avoid heavy foundation make-ups or cream-based cosmetics as they clog pores. Always remove make-up before retiring to bed at night. Clean cosmetic brushes regularly. Avoid using old make-ups and foundations. Use make-up only if it is necessary. Avoid wearing blush, foundation, or powder during a flare-up.

3. Use safety razors or electric shaver to shave your face. Soften face or beard with soap water before applying shaving cream.

4. Wash hands regularly and keep them clean. Do not touch face constantly. Do not keep cell phones in constant contact with skin. Wash hands thoroughly before applying make-up, lotions, or creams.

5. Never burst pimples as these increase infection and accelerate further blocking of pores. Seek specialist advice to treat pimples.

6. Use mild products on hair as anything you apply on hair comes in contact with your skin. Use gentle shampoos and conditioners. Always style your hair such that it does not fall on your face.

7. Do not expose your skin to the ultra-violet rays of sun. These rays are harmful and increase redness and inflammation of skin. If essential, use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. However, check product details before using it.

8. Eat healthy food with lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, and wholegrain cereals. Avoid junk food. Exercise regularly as it reduces stress and promotes free flow of blood.

9. Always shower after exercising or doing strenuous work. Oil and sweat on your skin attract bacteria leading to acne.

10. Adopt effective ways to deal with stress. Stay calm to prevent acne breakouts or flare-ups.
