Treatments Options for Acute Febrile Neutrophilic Dermatosis
Sweet’s syndrome could clear off by itself. If not, medications specifically corticosteroids, help clear skin lesions. Corticosteroids to treat acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis include:
Oral Pills: Prednisone is the most commonly prescribed and most effective corticosteroid to treat acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis. Normally fever, WBC count, and skin eruptions improve appreciably within seventy-two hours of starting treatment. Skin lesions clear away with ten days. Corticosteroids are gently tapered within six weeks to protect you from its side effects. Although Prednisone is very effective, it has serious side effects like weak bones and weight gain if used for a long period.
Injections: A very small amount of corticosteroid is directly injected at the place of skin lesion. However, this is not a feasible option if you have many lesions.
Creams or Ointments: Apply them on affected parts. However, these cause thinning of skin.
Medications for Acute Febrile Neutrophilic Dermatosis
Alternatives to corticosteroid treatment include medications like clofazimine, doxycycline, dapsone, indomethacin, and cyclosporine. Oral potassium iodide or colchicines could also provide good relief from lesions and do not cause any serious side effects.
In most people, lesions clear off without any scarring. However, in some, scarring persists and clears after a considerably long period. These treatments and medications can be followed either as a single therapy or combined with other therapies and treatments. Normally reoccurrences are few after such treatments.
