Acute myelogenous leukemia causes a variety of symptoms. Some are vague while some are similar to other diseases. Sometimes you do not have any symptoms at all; acute myelogenous leukemia comes to the fore during a routine blood test. In the early stages, most symptoms are same as that of flu.

Acute myelogenous leukemia replaces normal red blood cells with leukemic cells. Absence of normal white blood cell production makes you extremely susceptible to infections. Although leukemic cells are derived from white blood cells, they do not have any infection fighting ability, as they are immature. Further, decrease in the number of red blood cells makes you anemic causing paleness, breathlessness, and overall fatigue. Low platelet count causes bruises. In very rare cases, Sweet’s syndrome could occur with acute myelogenous leukemia. This is a paraneoplastic skin inflammation.
