The Government of India has increased Minimum Support Price (MSP) of jowar or sorgham from Rs. 980 to Rs. 1,500 per quintal for crop year 2012-2013. This is an increase of Rs. 520 a quintal or 53.06 percent over last year’s MSP fixed for jowar.

Indian Government Ups Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Jowar to Rs. 1,500 Per 100 Kgs
The Government of India has increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of jowar or sorgham of hybrid variety from Rs. 980 per quintal (100 Kilograms) to Rs. 1,500 per quintal and of Maldandi variety from Rs. 1,000 per quintal to Rs. 1,520 per quintal for the crop year 2012-2013 and marketing season 2013-2014.
This is an increase of Rs. 520 a quintal or 53.06 and 52.00 percent over last year’s Minimum Support Price fixed for jowar.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) took this decision to hike the MSP of jowar in its meeting held on Thursday, June 14, 2012 in New Delhi.
Every year, the Government of India determines the Minimum Support Price of jowar based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Cost and Prices (CACP).
