Similarly, Minimum Support Prices for all grades of mesta for various upcountry markets in different mesta growing states have been fixed for the 2012-2013 season.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) took this decision to hike the MSP of raw jute in its meeting held on Thursday, March 01, 2012 in New Delhi.
Every year, the Government of India determines the Minimum Support Price of various grades of raw jute based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Cost and Prices (CACP).
Jute Corporation of India (JCI) will continue as the central government’s nodal agency undertaking price support operations. The Government of India will fully reimburse the Jute Corporation of India for losses, if any, incurred in its MSP operations for jute.
Food Corporation of India (FCI) and sugar millers are the main buyers of jute bags in India. In order to encourage jute production in the country, the law makes it mandatory for the sugar mills and FCI to package all their products in jute bags only.
