Lifestyle changes and self-help go a long way in treating Achilles tendinopathy. Although these are not any permanent cure, they offer relief that is equivalent to a permanent cure. You only need to adapt these changes effectively into your regular routine such that they become more of a habit.

Restrict any activity that stresses your tendon or causes pain. It is not necessary to stop such activities completely. You can carry on with lesser intensity and frequency. Symptoms minimize and you can cope with them much better.

Normally tendon damage starts much before you feel any pain. Hence, as soon as pain emerges, the best option is to stop strenuous physical activities altogether.

Apply ice pack for around ten to thirty minutes to relieve stiffness and pain. Try to identify any changes that you have recently introduced into your training regimen. Stop these changes.

Discus with your doctor when to start exercises again. Give rest to your tendon and start all over again with your old routine. If you want to increase workout intensity start with small and gradual changes.

If you still feel pain or discomfort, consult a physiotherapist immediately.

Your physiotherapist would guide you through specific stretching exercises that strengthen your Achilles tendon. Do these exercises daily and diligently to get relief from stiffness and pain. Massage also promotes healing.
