Achilles Tenosynovitis: Complications and Risk Factors
Achilles tnosynovitis commonly occurs if there are repetitive movements across tendons. Complications and risk factors include:
Age: This condition is common in recreational athletes aged thirty to fifty years. Normally, these athletes are not actively involved in their sports and take part only intermittently. Middle-aged adults are more prone to this condition.
Physical Ability: Initially strong individuals can combat Achilles tenosynovitis conditions much better than weak persons can. Tendon rupture causes swelling of leg. This restricts toe movements and reflexes. However, strong athletes can perform these exercises albeit little forcefully. Weak people find it difficult to overcome these restrictions.
Activity Modifications: People with Achilles tenosynovitis should restrain activities involving excessive strain. Running uphill or across uneven terrain should be avoided. Cyclists should change saddle adjustments to reduce symptoms.
Morbidity: Achilles tenosynovitis could lead to rupture of tendon developing into tendon degeneration. This condition often causes tendon contraction. This restricts free movement. Hence, affected people feel morbid and upset.
Mortality: Achilles tenosynovitis is not a fatal condition.
Sex: Tenosynovitis occurs more in men than in women. The reason behind could be greater involvement in sports and physical activities.
Medications: Patients with a history of steroid and cortisone injections develop Achilles tenosynovitis. Recurrent and chronic pain in calf region leads to regular injection therapy eventually leading to tenosynovitis.
