Acne: Lifestyle Changes and Self-Help
Seek medical assistance for persistent and irritating acne. If you have severe scarring of skin due to acne, visit a dermatologist immediately. Women with irregular periods and frequent outbursts of acne should also seek medical help. Nonetheless, simple lifestyle changes and self help techniques do tackle acne effectively.
Lifestyle changes and self-help include:
1. Your skin reflects what you eat. Consume a balanced and healthy diet of vegetables, fresh fruits, grains, and seeds. Your diet should be rich in vitamin A, omega fatty acids, and zinc. Use sunflower, safflower, or corn oil for cooking. Restrict intake of caffeinated drinks, fried foods, and sugary foods. These contain toxins. Although fatty, fried, or sugary foods do not cause acne, they do not help in curing acne either. Drink fruit juices regularly. Wheatgrass juice controls pimples effectively.
2. Sleep well at night. Your body requires good and peaceful sleep to stay healthy and fit. Lack of sleep increases stress levels leading to acne eruptions and flare-ups.
3. Exfoliate skin frequently as oil gland secretions lead to acne breakouts. Further dry skin causes cracks where bacteria breed. Dry skin also leads to flaking of skin. This clogs pores. Exfoliate with a mild scrub few times in a week. Use a noncomedogenic moisturizer after exfoliating.
4. Consume lots of water as water washes away body toxins and keeps your skin hydrated. Although it is not medically proven that internal toxins cause acne, yet, water boosts free flow of blood throughout your body. Water promotes easy excretion of waste materials during metabolism. Absence of an easy system weakens body immune system. This increases toxic levels in body and you suffer from frequent acne breakouts.
5. Exercise is very important not only to keep body fit but also to keep your skin healthy. Exercise reduces stress levels, which is a major cause of acne development. Exercise improves blood circulation in body, regulates hormone levels, boosts your immune system, and disposes cellular wastes. However, be careful to clean away sweat after exercising. Preferably, have a shower after a strenuous exercise session.
