Actinic Keratosis: Lifestyle Changes and Self-Help

The best way to tackle actinic keratosis is to practice a complete examination of your skin. At first, visit your doctor for a complete body examination. Check with your doctor that any existing moles, freckles, and spots are normal. The first examination could take a long time; however, recurrent checks do not take much time.

Over time, you can do similar body examination all by yourself at home. Do it each month. Use a mirror to look across your back, scalp, and other body parts. If done regularly, you can detect any new changes in skin or any spots that have developed. Consult your doctor if you find any rough patch, any cut that does not heal, any red-colored patch, or any scaly part on your skin. If it is anything suspicious, visit your doctor immediately. Early detection and treatment of skin lesions or cancer is possible.

Also, avoid staying in the sunlight for long hours. If it is not possible to avoid such sun exposure completely, use sunscreen with SPF rating of at fifteen or thirty. Apply twenty minutes before going pout in the sun and reapply every two hours. Apply sunscreen all through the year. Wear protective clothing to keep entire body covered. Refrain from visiting tanning booths and salons. Also, do not use tanning beds. These simple lifestyle changes prove very helpful.
