Albinism – Complications and Risk Factors

Complications of Albinism

Common complications include:

Skin Problems: Albinism makes your skin vulnerable to skin cancer and chances of sunburn with sun exposure.

Social Problems: Albinism makes you look different, even amongst your family members or ethnic groups. You feel isolated and alienated. Children with albinism are often teased due to their appearance or visual aid devices.

Emotional Problems: Labeling a person ‘albino’ for specific medical condition hurts you emotionally, although you are in no way responsible for your medical condition. You free stressed. You suffer from low self-confidence and esteem.

Risk Factors for Albinism

Albinism is an inherited factor and hence the only risk factor is if albinism exists in the family.
